We hope that school closing will not occur often; however, it is important to consider the safety of both students and staff when these circumstances arise.
Please listen closely to radio announcements on Rock 95 FM Barrie, CHAY 93.1 FM Barrie or The Dock 104.1 FM Midland to hear if buses are cancelled/late and/or school is closed, during extremely poor weather conditions. The Board website will also provide updated information. When school is declared closed it is closed for all students and staff.
In most cases, our school will remain open when the buses are not traveling. It is the responsibility of parents to decide whether or not it is safe for a student to leave for school under severe weather conditions, as well as at other times, and that, in cases where buses have been reported cancelled, in accordance with Policy 4400 of the Simcoe County District School Board, students normally riding buses should not be sent or taken to school as you would be responsible for their transportation home. In addition, the principal may have to close the school at any time during the day. If this were to happen, we may not be able to contact bus student parents who would be responsible for transportation home. This could cause considerable concern and inconvenience for parents who work outside the school area and for school staff, many of whom have distances to travel to their own homes.
If it is announced that Bayview Public School is closed, no students should be sent to school since the school is closed to both students and staff and no one will be in the building.
In the event of an emergency during the day, students could be sent home early. If the school needs to be evacuated at any time, the entire body would be re-located to Midland Secondary School. Either of these situations would be announced on the above mentioned radio stations and the Simcoe County District School Board website. We will telephone homes to notify parents of early dismissal prior to students leaving the school. If you are regularly not home during the day, please make certain that arrangements are made with your neighbour, friend or babysitter to ensure that each child has a safe place to go. Please be sure to discuss these arrangements very carefully with each child and make sure the office has the name(s) of an emergency contact(s) for your child/children in this type of situation.
