Bayview's Code of Behaviour

The Bayview Code of Behaviour is based on the following principles:

  • all school discipline policies and procedures must recognize the inherent dignity and rights of each individual student
  • discipline is the shared responsibility of all staff, students and parents
  • discipline should be viewed as a positive learning process
  • discipline works best when integrated with effective teaching practices
  • all students are capable of learning cooperation and respect for others

The Simcoe County District School Board recognizes its responsibility, in partnership with students, parents and communities to:

  • provide a safe, positive and violence-free learning environment
  • promote a sense of self-worth and self-discipline in all students
  • support provincial curriculum expectations which promote prevention and socialy acceptable attitudes and effective social and interpersonal skills
  • monitor students at risk of being involved in violent incidents


Students are expected to:

 
 
  • make a commitment to learning and achieving success
  • take personal responsibility for their behaviour
 

Range of Consequences:
RECOGNITION OF APPROPRIATE BEHAVIOUR
INITIAL OCCURRENCE OF INAPPROPRIATE BEHAIOUR
REPEATED OCCURRENCE OF INAPPROPRIATE BEHAVIOUR
  • positive reinforcement or comments from staff and other students
  • a parent or a student may be contacted by teachers or the administration to share good news through telephone calls, notes, announcements, or certificates
  • privileges for consistent appropriate behaviour many be given at the discretion of the staff
  • jobs requiring responsibility may be given to students who consistently demonstrate appropriate behaviour
  • recognition during assemblies in a variety of ways
  • warning and/or counselling
  • time out
  • conference
  • documentation
  • phone call home
  • removal of privileges
  • detention
  • parent interview
  • recording of blue discipline sheet
  • suspension (depending on the incident)
 
  • conference

  • documentation
    (4 office write ups will usually result in suspension)
  • removal of privileges

  • interview with parents, students, and/or administration
  • behavioural contract
  • involvement of SCDSB resource staff or outside agencies

Depending on the severity of the inappropriate behaviour, some steps may be
omitted and the range of consequences is not necessarily sequential.
