Homework

Your teacher won't believe your dog ate your homework!
Homework falls under one of the following categories:

 
  * completion of the day's assignments
* practise assignments to reinforce skills
* study for upcoming tests
* extension assignments to take the student beyond the classroom
* preparation assignments which provide background information before instruction begins
 


Who is responsible for homework?

PARENT

  • teach the importance of homework and its value to school success
  • provide support when establishing homework routines
  • use homework as a method for developing and reinforcing learning
  • monitor, check and evaluate homework
  • offer the opportunity to communicate regularly with parents/guardians
  • encourage and promote daily use of an agenda or homework book
  • monitor homework completion
  • set high expectations for your child
  • provide encouragement and appropriate support
  • show an interest in your child's schoolwork and progress
  • maintain regular contact with the teacher
  • read with your child
  • assume responsibility for homework completion
  • manage your time and the materials needed to complete your work
  • study for tests
  • communicate regularly with your teachers and parents


*Tips to Help Your Child Develop Good Study Habits*

 
  * provide a well lit, quiet work space
* be available to assist your child without actually doing the work for them
* set a consistent routine for homework completion
* if no homework has been assigned, have your child practise reading or math
* read with your son or daughter
* check that homework has been completed
* encourage a method of organization: agenda or homework book
* encourage your child to speak to the teacher if they are experiencing difficulty
 


Homework lost or left at home is considered incomplete.

Homework is expected to be completed to the best of the
student's ability and returned to school on the appropriate day.
