School Profile

Bayview Public School
2008-2009

The students of Bayview Public School have developed a love of
learning. Our current school motto is "Building for a Better Tomorrow" which reflects the current changes that Bayview is undergoing. Our students are striving to achieve their personal goals through their educational careers at Bayview and to set realistic and achievable goals for the future.

At Bayview we strive to provide a well-rounded education for our students.
Students have equitable computer time, which is delivered in the classroom as well as in our mini computer lab. When our renovations are complete, we will have a new computer lab located within our library area.

Our school website features school information, activity opportunities and
school events. All of our classroom teachers use the computer to produce
student report cards. A comprehensive physical education program is provided for our students where the prime focus is active participation, the improvement of their fitness level and to have doing so. Daily physical activities take place in the classroom, on the playground and within our community in the form of neighbourhood walks and visits to the local park.

The staff has developed a collegial atmosphere where sharing and
co-operation are paramount. A well developed Science and Technology program provides unique opportunities for every student. Programs such as Peer Tutoring, Special Presentations, Reading Buddies and Monitors are provided for the students to develop their sense of community at Bayview.

Bayview Public School first opened its doors to students in 1969.
We currently have about 400 students who are enrolled in classes from the Junior Kindergarten level to Grade 8. We have a very active School Council and Bayview Parent Auxiliary who work diligently to provide the students with extra activities by supporting and encouraging programs and raising funds for extra student opportunities such as Drama Presentations, the Grade 8 trip to Ottawa, and the Grade 4 Camp Kitchi trip. Parent and community members are invited to attend and participate in functions such as the Primary Skating Program, Jump Rope for Heart, and the Terry Fox Run. An active group of volunteers assist within the classrooms and run the school's Safe Arrival Programme. Our school participates in a Milk Program and the sale of Submarine Sandwiches, Hot Dogs and Pizza.
